Viral videos (much like herpes) are incurable. With the efficiency of social networking today, there is no stopping the transmission. Though it may die down a little, there is always a possibility it will flare back up again. To all the infamous Youtube stars out there, it sucks to be you.
All jokes aside, viral videos are an interesting phenomenon. Consider this; according to SearchEngineWatch.com, 48 hours of video are uploaded to Youtube every second. That means standing out is...difficult. But just think of the possibilities.
I saw a video in Tom's class the other day that gave me a whole new outlook on viral videos. It's a little girl opening up a backpack full of Disney merchandise. Her mom then tells her they're leaving for Disneyland that evening and she bursts into tears of joy. I'll hand it to them, it's kind of cute. Okay, fine...I burst into tears of unbelievable adorableness.
The bottom line is that viral video marketing can be a dream come true, or a complete nightmare (just ask Miss North Carolina). In this case, it worked out in Disney's favor. They couldn't have asked for a better reaction from a hired actress. The clip is raw and her reaction is genuine. Kids lose their sugar over Disneyland.
So the next time you're partying hard at your buddy's place, unpacking a birthday gift or stuttering your future away on a beauty pageant stage, smile for the camera! =)
